Messages
Messages is where members of your organization talk to each other and to AI agents. It has direct messages, group chats, course announcements, and agents such as Copilot that answer from your course content.
Messages is included in every LearnHouse Cloud plan. On self-hosted instances it is part of the Enterprise Edition. Members must be signed in to use it.
Open it from the Messages button in the organization’s menu, or go to /messages. A chat dock also sits at the bottom of every page: open a conversation from it without leaving the lesson you are on, and minimize chats into small heads you can reopen later.
Conversations
| Kind | What it is |
|---|---|
| Direct message | A private chat between two members. |
| Group | A chat with several members. The group’s owner and admins can rename it and add people; anyone can leave. |
| Course announcements | A one-way channel for everyone enrolled in a course. Only the course team and admins can post. |
| Agent chat | Your own chat with an AI agent. |
Click New message, pick one person to start a direct message, or pick several to start a group. Inside a conversation you can:
- React to messages with emoji, reply, edit or delete your own messages.
- See who is typing, who is online, and who has read your message.
- Share a course: it shows as a card that opens the course. Courses also have a Share in Messages button, and member profiles a Message button.
- Search your conversations.
Course announcements
Course creators, maintainers, contributors and admins can message everyone in a course at once. Click Message everyone in a course, pick the course (it shows how many people it reaches), write the announcement, and optionally attach the course card. Learners receive it in the course’s announcement channel and can’t reply there.
Agents
An agent is an AI assistant you can chat with in Messages. It answers from the indexed course content of your organization, and only from courses the person asking can read. Answers cite their sources: click a source to jump to the lesson it came from.
Agents can also answer with interactive blocks: quizzes, flashcards, charts, mind maps, timelines and exercises.
Copilot
Every organization has a built-in agent called Copilot. It answers from every course you can access and adds its own general knowledge, clearly marked. Admins can edit its look and instructions, but can’t delete it. The old Copilot page now opens Messages.
Building your own agent
Open the agents gallery in Messages and create an agent. Choose:
| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Name, emoji and colors | How the agent looks in chats. |
| Tone | Friendly, Concise, Socratic tutor, Expert or Playful. |
| Instructions | What it should do, for example “Quiz me after each answer” or “Answer in French”. |
| Knowledge | Course content only sticks to what your courses say. Courses + general knowledge adds the model’s own knowledge. |
| Courses | All courses, or a few selected ones. |
| Visibility | Only me, or Everyone in the org (admins only). |
Each member can create up to 25 agents.
Agents in group chats
Mention an agent in a group chat to have it answer there. Everyone in the group sees the answer as it is written. In a group, an agent only uses content that every member of the group can read.
Credits
Each agent reply uses 2 of your organization’s AI credits. Agents need Enable AI Features and AI Copilot to be on in the AI settings; turning AI Copilot off turns off every agent.
Reminders
Ask any agent to remind you about something (“remind me to review chapter 3 tomorrow at 9”), or use Remind me on any message and pick a time. When it is due, the reminder arrives as a message in your chat with the agent, with a link back to the original message. You can list and cancel your upcoming reminders in Messages.
Reminders can be set up to a year ahead, and each member can have up to 50 upcoming ones.
Settings
Open Messages settings to control how you show up and when you are notified.
